My doctoral research was developed between March 1998 and July 2001. It is called "A Model for Statistical Quality Control Teaching". Statistical Quality Control (SQC) was initiated by Walther Shewhart, who invented the Control Chart when working at Bell Telephone Laboratories in 1924. Many techniques were developed for, or applied to, Statistical Quality Control after that initial work: Acceptance Sampling, Statistical Design of Experiments, Process Capability Studies, and others.
In Brazilian companies SQC is often misused, or not used at all. Therefore Quality evaluation can be jeopardized, with serious consequences for companies market position an survival.
Therefore, one proposed a model for Statistical Quality Control teaching, to turn it more effective, allowing a broader understanding of all involved concepts. This can contribute for spreading the CORRECT use of SQC techniques among Brazilian companies. One of the most interesting model's characteristics is the integration of an Intelligent Tutorial System, the STCEQ (Intelligent Tutorial System for Statistical Quality Control).
